Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

Leave the hotel with a packed breakfast for the day excursion.

Established in 1975, the riverside sanctuary, known as Pinnawala offers displaced and injured elephants care and medical attention. Some of these orphans are lucky enough to continue giving birth in the same location.

Originally meant to be a tourist attraction, the orphanage swiftly transformed into a centre for education and conservation. With the aid of foreign and local experts on elephants, Pinnawela started a scientific captive-breeding plan for elephants.

The orphanage provides tender attention for hundreds of elephants. The elephants at the orphanage bathe in a nearby river each day.

On the conclusion of the visit, go back to the hotel in the evening.
